On September 14, 2023, Lise Davidsen became one of the youngest singers ever to be invited to give a solo recital at the Metropolitan Opera, an opera house with which she has a very special connection. “I consider the Met my second home,” she says, “but that doesn’t mean you’ll ever be asked for something this special, so I was deeply moved when it happened.” Together with pianist James Baillieu, Lise presented a program featuring highlights from her Met roles, a varied repertoire of songs, and several lighter pieces from the worlds of operetta and musical theatre.
Peter Gelb (General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera) said: “Lise Davidsen is the greatest Wagner talent since Birgit Nilsson and Kirsten Flagstad. Her voice sounds exceptional in the Met’s luxurious acoustics, with incredible beauty and great subtlety, but also astonishing power.”
