With One Night in Highland Park, a previously unreleased live recording by Louis Armstrong and The All Stars (Trummy Young, trombone | Edmond Hall, clarinet | Billy Kyle, piano | Squire Gersh, bass | Barrett Deems, drums) is being released for the first time.
The concert took place in the auditorium of a high school in Highland Park, where Armstrong performed as part of a local benefit event. The recording was made by Joel Goldstein, who at the time served as stage manager for the student technical crew. The tapes were carefully preserved and remained on the shelf for nearly seven decades. Until now.
One Night in Highland Park is more than a rediscovered concert: it is a vivid portrait of Armstrong’s artistry, stamina, humanity, and enduring ability to connect with his audience and bring an entire community together.
The recording was transferred, mixed, and mastered by Kevin Reeves. The liner notes were written by Armstrong biographer Ricky Riccardi of the Louis Armstrong House Museum.
