Marking the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane's birth, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson pays tribute to one of his most important musical and spiritual influences with "Ananta: Spirit of Coltrane". The Los Angeles-based composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist moves effortlessly between jazz, classical music, hip-hop and electronic sounds, and has worked with artists including Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat and Anderson .Paak. Leading a 21-piece ensemble and joined by guests including Brandee Younger, Shabaka, Immanuel Wilkins, Jeff Parker, Flying Lotus and Aja Monet, Atwood-Ferguson brings Coltrane's music into the present. Classics such as "Naima", "My Favorite Things", "A Love Supreme" and "Giant Steps" take on new colours and perspectives. More than a tribute, Atwood-Ferguson sees "Ananta" as spiritual "Cosmic Music" – a contemporary continuation of Coltrane's boundless musical vision.
