Recorded during just as creatively spectacular a period as those 1972 and 1980 runs of shows, Steal Your Face was recorded to 16-track tape between October 16 and 20, 1974, at Winterland in San Francisco. Recorded as both a document of what might have been the Grateful Dead's final run of shows (there was serious chatter) and as the audio component of wat would become the Grateful Dead Movie, the album was mixed by Phil Lesh and Owsley \"Bear\" Stanley.
