Howl is both Mei’s second studio album and her major-label debut (Verve Records/Interscope). The album was largely recorded and arranged at The Power Station in New York, together with the regular string section from Mei’s touring band. It was co-produced by Mei herself.
The album prominently showcases her distinctive guitar skills. The songs, performed in both English and Japanese, feature lyrics that reveal a newfound vulnerability and reflect her growth as both a person and an artist.
Mei’s mother, Seiko Semones, created the artwork, logo, and other hand-drawn creative elements featured in the album’s visual design.
