On pianist Víkingur Ólafsson's new and very personal album 'From Afar', his Icelandic origins are palpable. It is a tribute to György Kurtag, one of his favourite composers. Meeting him provided a new perspective on life and music, resulting in this album. Víkingur recorded all the music on both a grand piano and a piano, and the album contains both versions, each with a very distinct timbre. Featuring music by Kurtag, Adès, Bach, Brahms, Birgisson, Kaldalóns, Mozart and Schumann.
